Tap a Keg

A Hell of a Joint

The Upper West Side keeps getting shinier. We did not get the memo. Dim room, worn-in stools, neon in the window, a pool table in the back that actually gets used. Bartenders pour without a speech. Regulars treat the rail like a living room.

Open daily noon–4:00 AM

Happy hour noon–7:00 PM · $1 off drinks

The joint

Why the lights stay on

This is still a real UWS dive: stiff cheap pours, neon beer signs, and a room that feels like a clubhouse. Columbia kids, pensioners, and the occasional hustler share the same popcorn bowl. New York Magazine called it a clubhouse. That’s the idea.

This page is a placeholder while the rest of the site gets poured. The bar is open. Call (212) 749-1734 or write info@tapakeg.nyc.

What people write

From the neighborhood

Pulled from the maps listing and the writeups that keep pointing at the same room.

“I visit from Tennessee every year. Always get into a great pool game. Very friendly fun crowd.”

Google · Aug 2026

“Always love coming here and the staff makes me feel like home.”

Google · Jun 2026

“Tap a Keg is undeniably a dive, but it’s got more character than the neon beer signs on display there.”

New York Magazine

“One of the last true dives in the neighborhood. Dim lights, cheap drinks, no pretense.”

TV and City · Bar of the Week

A bartender calls the regulars “the pensioners.” You might also get a pool hustler, a Columbia grad on free popcorn, or a slice from Mama’s Too.

The Infatuation

“Tap A Keg! …still One Hell of a joint!”
